Baglietto with the european institute of design (IED) for a thesis project

La Spezia, 15th November 2023_ Baglietto confirms its special vocation towards young people and initiatives aimed at attracting new talents.

It was, in fact, launched last week the thesis project for the first-level academic degree in Transportation Design and Interior Design at IED, the prestigious institute specializing in design. The future designers, assisted by Eng. Guido Penco, Baglietto Technical Development Director, Prof. Luca Sordelli, chairholder, and Marco Mastroeni, educational coordinator, will have to try their hand at reinterpreting a Fast aluminum yacht. The concept of the new yacht will have to take up the classic stylistic features of the tradition of Baglietto planing yachts signed by great designers such as Cichero and Paszkowski, re-interpreting them in a contemporary key, without neglecting, however, the main demands of the current market. In particular, large volumes, especially for outdoor spaces, the connection with the surrounding environment and the sea, especially at the stern, as well as attention to sustainability issues.

The thesis project will be concluded with a thesis discussion at the end of the course.

“We are very pleased with this collaboration with such a prestigious institute as IED” comments Raffaella Daino, Baglietto Head of Communication, who was present at the “start and go” of the project. “I believe that the theme we have proposed is very challenging for the students and can give them great room for creativity in both design and implementation.

“This strategic partnership stems from the common desire of Baglietto and IED Turin to support academic excellence and provide future designers with practical experience in the field of naval design. The students of the three-year course in Transportation Design will be able to apply creativity and expertise by developing their thesis project in collaboration with the professionals of a world-class company, representing the best Italian tradition in a unique bridge between academia and industry,” comments Michele Albera, Coordinator of the Three-year Course in Transportation Design IED Turin.

Baglietto:
Boat bspecializesietto specialises in the construction of new planing aluminium and steel & aluminium displacement mega-yachts yachts ranging between 35 and 65 metres. Baglietto can currently rely on 2 production sites, in La Spezia (headquarters) and Carrara (operating site). The La Spezia headquarters extend over an area of approximately 35,000 sq. m. Over the last few years, the entire production site has been extensively renovated and enlarged. Three new sheds allowing for the construction of yachts up to 65 m in length were built in La Spezia, as well as new fully-equipped quays, to berth vessels of up to 70 m. The operating site in Carrara, conversely, comprises 2 areas of 5,000 sq. m each. One is used to build military crafts, while in the other – now equipped with 4 new sheds – yachts up to 46 m in length are built. Baglietto’s activities are set to grow considerably, not only with regard to the construction of new pleasure vessels, but also in the military sector, with the BAGLIETTO NAVY brand as well as some new models marked Bertram yachts, part of the Baglietto Group since 2015.
